On their way: Dromadaires

  • Dromadaries

by the French artist Roch Vandromme
Located near the Old Palace, a sculptural group by French artist Roch Vandromme, On Their Way, comprises the figures of four camels, evoking Qatar’s long history of nomadic lifestyle and trade.

During his visit, Vandromme created sketches to capture these majestic animals’ essence and character. His intention was to portray the close relationship between humans and camels. In this sculpture, the presence of the two calves at the front represents and celebrates the continuation of this dynamic relationship.

Depicting animals in their most rustic or exotic form.

A seemingly simple credo, but the strength of his modelling lies in the way he brings out the personality of the animal he is sculpting. Whether in the form of a portrait or an attitude, he forms a special relationship with each model, most of whose names appear in the title. He creates quick sketches on the spot to capture the fraction of a gesture as closely as possible. Then, back in his studio, he translates it into clay.

  • You can thus discover different models that he created in relation with the monumental group.
